After days of confusion and online speculation, the Punjab government has put the matter to rest: schools across the province will reopen on January 19, with no further extension to winter vacations.
Punjab Education Minister Sikandar Hayat confirmed that the academic calendar will move forward as planned. He made it clear that both public and private schools are expected to resume classes on the announced date, bringing an end to uncertainty among parents and students.
Winter holidays were originally announced in late December and later extended by one additional week due to an intense cold wave affecting large parts of Punjab. In total, students were given around a month-long break to cope with harsh weather conditions. According to the education department, most of that time has already been utilized, and no justification remains for another delay.
Officials say the decision was taken to protect the academic schedule and avoid disruptions to exams, coursework, and yearly planning. Parents have been advised to prepare children for a smooth return to routine, while schools have been instructed to reopen fully and continue classes without changes.
In short, there is no new extension—schools will open as scheduled, and the winter break officially comes to an end.
