The Pakistan Super League has officially revealed key details for PSL 11, confirming a major change in how teams will be formed for the 2026 season. For the first time in league history, PSL will move away from the traditional draft system and adopt a Player Auction Model, bringing a new approach to squad building.

Auction Model Replaces Draft System

After using the draft format for a decade, the league has decided to introduce auctions to create a more open and competitive process. Under this system, franchises will bid for players directly, allowing market demand to play a larger role in player valuations and team strategies.

Player Retention Rules for PSL 11

PSL franchises will be allowed to retain:

This is a significant reduction from previous seasons, where teams could retain larger cores through multiple exemptions.

Key Rules Removed

For PSL 11, the league has scrapped:

The aim is to ensure a level playing field for all teams heading into the auction.

Special Rule for New Franchises

Any newly added team will be allowed to select and retain four players from the available player pool before the auction begins, helping new franchises remain competitive from day one.

Overseas Direct Signing Option

Each franchise will also be permitted one direct overseas signing, provided the player did not feature in the previous PSL season. This move is intended to attract fresh international names and increase global interest in the league.

Increased Salary Cap

The player salary purse has been raised to $1.6 million per franchise, giving teams more financial flexibility and improving PSL’s ability to compete with other major T20 leagues for talent.

PSL 11 Start Date and Venue Update

PSL 11 will begin on March 26, 2026, with Faisalabad added as a new host city alongside existing venues. Further information regarding the auction timeline and operational details will be announced soon.

With the introduction of auctions, tighter retention rules, and a higher salary cap, PSL 11 is set to mark a new chapter for Pakistan’s premier T20 league—one focused on transparency, competition, and long-term growth.
